I have a 3 year old cow that I want to breed. The problem I am having is she doesn't seem to be coming into heat. She got out of her pasture about 5 months ago and now I am wondering if maybe she didn't find a bull then. When do the utters start filling with milk? Other than taking her to a vet is there any other way to tell is the is pregnant?

She won't bag down until just before she calves. Find someone to palp her or have a vet check.

I'd take her to the vet if you knew she was exposed and possibly bred. If she has been exposed to a bull for an extended period of time and never bred that could be a problem (grass burner). If she is not bred the vet can at least tell you if the tract feels normal. Then I would have him hit her with some ludelyce and put her with a bull immeadiately. Watch her close for about three days, (may have to repeat the shot) record the breed date (use a bull that you know can breed. :) ), then have her palped in 60 days. If she is open I would ship her (sale barn her).

Udders will show some development about 3 weeks before calving, noticeably at 2 weeks and a lot of drop under 10 days. Some cows will not drop milk until about the last 10 days period. Look at her vulva. Is it pattied, and bouncing. Does it appear swollen? Does she have any discharge when she lies down for a while?

Put her in a lane or shute where she can't kick you to do a bump test on the lower right (her right gut) side of her flank (behind and well below the upper rib cage). If she is heavy bred you can do a quick push inward on that area with your hand (kinda like quickly pushing a basketball), but leave the hand on the hide and feel for a return bump (like a ball inside came back at ya). If she is heavy bred you might be able to tell that way w/o a vet. It's not a guarantee though.

GREEN EYED LADY --- by Sugarloaf

green-eyed lady, lovely lady
strolling slowly towards the sun
green-eyed lady, ocean lady
soothing every raging wave that comes

green-eyed lady, passion's lady
dressed in love, she lives for life to be
green-eyed lady feels life I never see
setting suns and lonely lovers free

green-eyed lady, wind-swept lady
rules the night, the waves, the sand
green-eyed lady, ocean lady
child of nature, friend of man

You best bet is to have a vet preg check her. If she's open, he/****/it can do a repro tract exam to insure that she's cycling.

Blue Eyed Lady,

I am truly sorry if what I said was taken the wrong way..and that I kinda got everyone else off on a tangent. I hope I at least partly helped answer your initial question.
