Vet uses an ultrasound. Only arms the open cows to make sure. I can test them myself but I am way too slow.

A full palpate or ultrasound? Our vet is a whole lot faster using ultrasound.

7% open which is average for us. Another 7% that were outside our desired calving interval. We will likely sort some of the younger ones back in to herd and catch them up again. The rest are bred to calve in 35 days.

The country. Predators, terrain, feed quality, they all add up. We have never done better than 5. Maybe if our cut off date was Aug 1 and we had a 120 day calving period like some we could get it down to 2.

I'd be happy if I could get to 7% in 90 days. Best we can manage in 10% in 90 days. In hot dry years we'll be at 15%....no good.
