Preg Check

took a couple of heifers to Trans Ova this morning for preg check. i had turned them in with the bull on the 10th of july and took them out 15th of august. the technician said both were safe with calf and that they were very close to 70 days old. he even told me one was a "very likely" a heifer and the other one was "very likely" not. he charged me $5 a hd. and i was on my way. this was the first time i had preg check done by ultrasound, i am sure i will be doing more of this in the future. it's more reassuring for me to see it on the screen rather than having someone say "yep" or "nope"

your lucky that you have people in your area that can use an ulrasound for preg checking.i wish i had some1 in my area that used the ultrasound for preg checking.

I can do that when palpating, the problem is I'm wrong half of the time ;-)

Seriously though it would take alot of the fun out of calving knowing what to expect, but would definately help to know in advance when to expect twins.

bigbull338 - very fortunate. i live only 25 miles from their facility. they are top notch in my book, very knowledgeable and professional. and their working facilities are awesome. pens and runs are laid out very efficiently and is a low stress environment on the animals. seems like they know exactly where to go even though they have never been there before.

dun- correct as usual...i was very suprised how quick the exam was.

knersie- i still had a little fun with it. when i went in to work the secretary asked where i had been. i said that we had went for an ultrasound _ gonna have a boy and a girl! she took it hook, line and sinker. :lol:

im in between dallas an texarkana.but im not big enough to start having the ultra sounds down.i just know thats better than pregg checking.

Your LA animal vet may be able to do it. We've had ours US a couple when we wanted to know if they were carrying a bull or a heifer so we could better decide if they would be staying or leaving.

i doubt if my vet has an ultrasound machine.heck the last time i used him he didnt even have a set of scales.
