Going to look at this system tomorrow, it has the 180 sweep that goes into a 24ft alley that goes to a model 91 headgate from my understanding. The pics i got of it aint the best so its hard to tell exact condition. My question is how well do these hold there value. I was told its 9-10 years old and theyre asking like $800 less than what i can buy new. My thoughts are buy new before doing that, but im hoping to haggle on the price once i get there if it checks out in good working condition. So getting back to my question do they hold value that well if they are in good shape? Just seems high to me so thought id ask for input.
 
What priefert stuff I do have is like new. I have a calf table, chute, and panels and all of it has held up really well. The table and chute are both twenty plus years old and have thousands of head run through them. I prefer powder river but if the price is right it is solid equipment.
 
New is around $4k, they are asking $3200. Thanks for the input yall.
 
good shape. $2500 at the most. Check the bottoms that are sitting in in dirt to see how rusty they are. Might take something with you to tap on them. Its easy to hear how thin and rusty the metal is. Also check the hinge area of the sweep. Thin rusty areas there are a problem.

If its 10 years old they are asking about what they paid for it.
 
$2500 is kinda what im thinking if in good shape. Ill go check it out and see what i can do if it checks out.

4,000 x 2/3 = 2,666

$2,000 sounds like it would be a good deal
$2,500 sounds fair

Asking 3,200 means they'll happily take 3,000 to me.
 
Well i ended up buying it when i got up there it checked out fine and they had an additional 8 10ft prefiert panels that went with it that i didnt know about. Offered 3 but they were stuck at 3200 so i done it. I got the 180 sweep 12 10ft panels i alley brace, one of the back stopper things in goes in alley and the headgate on a stand for that price. Not gone say its a great deal but i took it considering the stuff was in good condition.

They got a couple hundred more than they should have...good for them....forget about it.
You got what you were looking for, good for you. win/win for both
Having it should make your life easier, that's the bottom line.
 
My rule is if im paying over 50% of the cost of something new I buy new and get the warranty with it. That's just me.

I think you did ok, especially if those 8 extra panels are their Premier or roughstock panels. They run about $150-$170 each around here new.
 
not really prefirt fan at all. but if ya think ya like it ,it looks good an sounds like a good deal to you ,then its a good deal thats all that really matters .like some one said if i cant get it half anew well i look around a little more ,my guess theres going to be some deals on equip in another year an maybe some this winter .have seen two nice set up . go up for sell in the last 2 months,both were brand new, one i know only had 8 head ran through it . small but had a complete chute they just set it up last year. the other was a sweep 1 ally section scale section and complete chute an headgate, all in line on wheels.both were like new price .one they sold 3/4 of new the other i cant say !

You guys must be running about 2-3 years behind us. That was when the farm sales really had decent equipment. The past couple of years you only hear about maybe 1 or 2 decent sales a year around here.

What part of Prefiert do you not like? Is it the headgate or panels you don't like? I have no experience with their panels but have a chute from them.
 
Im pretty happy with the purchase, i feel i saved roughly $1500 going this route. I do agree though more good deals are coming in the future and im still keeping my eye open.

That is all that matters is that you are satisfied with the deal, your money so don't worry about what others think. Sounds like you did ok if it is all in good shape. Deals vary a lot from area to area.
