Those of you that have a beloved pet, I ask you please for prayers for my 6 month old border collie Nikki .
As most of you know we lost our beloved Steffie to urethra cancer last August. We were blessed Christmas Eve with a new 6 week old puppy and she has just stolen our hearts. The last little while she has been having some bladder issues ,and yesterday while she was sleeping she started to leak urine. Hubby took her in first thing this morning to her vet clinic for some tests . She does have a minor bladder infection but her symptoms of the leaking urine even after she has just gone out to pee are not conducive with a bladder infection ,rather they are indicative of a congenital liver or kidney defect. I am taking her in tomorrow for blood work and praying that her enzyme counts our normal. I just cannot go through this again, it was heart wrenching having to go through bladder cancer with Steffie and now our Nikki could be suffering from kidney or liver failure. I am absolutely heart broken, so if you all could please say a prayer for our Nikki, I will be forever grateful.

Thanks so much for reading my post.

Our little 5 year old housecat had some serious kidney issues this past winter, even the vets thought we were going to lose him. Now he's on a special diet and takes a couple meds daily, but he's put on 5lbs or more and is just as happy as he ever was.

Best of luck, hd.

Good luck!

I don't think people that haven't had pets understand. All a dog needs to be happy is attention. If you've ever watched the end of "Marley and me" the narrater says it perfect. A dog is surely a wonderful animal.

You got it!
You and Nikki are in my thoughts and prayers. I have a border collie named Star that I love so much and don't know what I'd do without her. I understand and hope Nikki is better real soon.

you got it HD.i know what yall have been through an i truelly do feel for you.heres hoping you get a good report from the vet.

Thank you everyone, your words mean the world to me. I was speaking to hubby on the phone after Nikki's tests were done and he asked me if it is weird to love a dog this much, as neither one of us got any sleap last night . It felt like deja vu when Steffie was diagnosed with terminal cancer ...

Now we wait, Nikki had a really good day,o leaking and she was in the car with me for quite a while as I had some errands to do after her appointment.. She also got 3 new toys ,that were a big hit when we got home.

I will keep you all posted as I hear more.

Thank you for the link Alison, I did a ton of reading last night and this morning but had not come across that article.

I'm so sorry this has happened.. I can't remember,is Nikki the same bloodline as Steffi??

I'm sorry she is under the weather. I hope she pulls through with flying colors. I'm very attached to my dog as well and can empathize with you. BTW - it ain't crazy loving a dog, especially one so special.

HD I am so very sorry to hear your news, I hope and pray for Nikki to be OK, as you know I lost my beloved cat just before Christmas. When he was a kitten he had a similar problem turned out he had a portal shunt, something to do with the liver. He had an op and lived a happy life longer than the vets told us he would, he survived with a special diet and I always say a lot of love, it is not silly to love a dog or cat or come to think of it any animal that you own as part of your family. I cried for a week when they had to prize my lab out of my arms when she had to be, well you know what.

Thank you all for your kind words and your prayers for our beloved Nikki.

Dr Novaly called me this afternoon..

The tests came back good, everything looks normal, except her protein level is a little low. We still need to do a few more tests next week after she is off her antibiotics, but so far things look hopeful.

Thank you again , you truly are kind, compassionate ,wonderful people.

Chrisy, I am so sorry about the loss of you cat, I know what an important part of your life he was.

Peg, Nikki is not related to Steffie at all..

I am thinking I may just get a good nights sleep tonight..

HD ask about diabetes, yes I know sounds funny a dog but they do get it, as Protien levels low and leaking bladder can be signs of it. Just a thought.
