I still don't see what you are calling pot bellied.... Maybe I am blind... I wish I could find the pictures of the pot bellied calves I got off a guy years ago in a trade..... They looked like they were bloated they were so pot bellied... took about a month and they looked a whole lot better... by fall the guy didn't even know they had been his calves... he stopped by one day to see if I had any work needing doing... he was a "jack of all trades"... good for grunt work, and it was worth it to me for him to do some things like tree/brush clearing cutting etc... and asked if I managed to sell those calves I got from him.... they were standing in the pasture right there close with one of my nurse cows and her 3 calves.... I just said that they did okay for me...
Your calves look like they could use some more feed, as they are growing, but they look entirely different than the first pics of them when they were so young...

I agree. They look better than they did. The orange white face and one of the white face heifers had huge bellies on them a couple weeks ago. One of the really little ones has a giant belly now, I wish I would have gotten a better pic but got side tracked taking one sick one to the vet today. Overall I think they are doing alright.

Just posted a full update. But to everyone’s surprise, no. All she could figure was a jacked up rumen. Put him on a “corrective” diet and some oral meds for 8 days

They have had a really rough start. You are giving them a chance many would not have given them.
Adjusting from a starvation diet to the land of plenty may not be easy for all of them.
Sometimes when I'm really not feeling well, I will lay around for abit. Start feeling a little better get up start
moving around and start feeling icky again.
He sounds like he plays dead, like really young calves, much younger than him, do sometimes.
Hope he gets better, in the meantime learn all you can with him.

There is this big outfit called The Dairy Alliance.

When you’re dealing with the general population you have to start beyond basic. You can always elevate the conversation as you get a feel for your audience. But in general, sub-basic is the best starting point. Many people have no frame of reference to start with.

I noticed the belly... also the eartag.... Is that when you got them? I will bet this calf was not 8 weeks when you got it.. no wonder it was not doing that well... He is more likely going to be stunted rather than have some mini in him....

no I got him July 14th. So about 2 weeks before the ear tag I put in. Once they get older, for instance, a yearling, how much of a difference is there with the stunted growth? I’m sure it’s on a per case basis. But I’m assuming it’s pretty noticeable even as they get older?

HE looks like a couple weeks old calf to me...
You got "taken" on these calves... and they are pretty lucky you have managed to keep them going ....
If he has mini in him you will know as he grows more...

If he's a mini, put a blue bow on his neck and sell him on craigslist. You'll probably get more for him than any of the others.
I like the feed pen you have setup, it's nice they can eat in the shade. The sick one reminded me of a sick yearling we had several years back. He acted ill but didn't have the normal droopy ears and hanging head. I gave him a shot of Draxxin at the vets advice but it didn't do any good. I felt like he had a belly issue so gave him Dex and tubed him with a probiotic. The probiotic was green and in a 2 gallon jug. Had to give the probiotic 3 times but it fixed him up. Good luck with this bunch.
