pot bellied calf

What causes a potbellied calf. are small herd is looking pot bellied and need to put a stop to it if possible.

Thanks for any suggestions.
 
If they;re nursing a cow it's either inadequate milk or worms. If they;re grazing or eating feed it's either worms or inadequate nutrition
 
How old do the calves need to be to worm them? I know we use ivomec for the cows use the same product?

Yes you can use Ivomec, but if the calves are young and still suckling its more likely that its some form of tapeworm, have a fecal sample analysed of one of the worst looking calves and have your vet recommend a treatment. There is no one product that will be effective against all kinds of parasites, so ist better to make sure what kind(s) of parasites are present to use all the correct products in the correct dosages as it often varies between different species of parasite even if the product used is the same.
