Houston's math may or may not be correct or easy to understand, but his point about alot of money being taken away from family cattle people and used for inflated salaries and special projects for people on the "inside" is right on target. It was supposed to sell beef, and we have all read about different ways the money has been used for other purposes. Just like everything else, once a law allows money to be taken, that law is never overturned or the money given back. Just as has already been said----cattle prices are high at the moment, so they want to increase the tax. How many of you same people were fighting to get it reduced when the 500 lb calf was worth 40 cents per pound, not that many years ago? What will be in the new raise in the tax that says it will go back to 1 dollar when the cattle price goes down? No tax ever goes away. Like it has already been said, maybe this will create enough fury to get the signatures to get rid of it. But, more than likely, there will be another rule change to keep it around---there is precedence.
