Portable Squeeze Chute

We are looking to hopefully invest in a portable squeeze chute this year. This will mainly be used to haul around and work cows for people. A palpation cage is a necessity. I highly dislike anything that uses a rope, and much prefer a scissor-type headgate vs. self-catch. I kindof have it narrowed down to a Q-catch (only problem, they are in CANADA) or the more deluxe For-Most version, which we've used before. Anyone have a Q-catch? Or would recommend another chute that isn't coming up in my Google search?? We have a Cattle King on the ranch and really like it, but would have to make some big tweaks for it to be my ideal portable chute. Thanks!

You can custom build the hydraulic units on a trailer for about $8500. Or you can spend $30K

I priced a preifert so4 portable this week and it was 4000$ the nice for-most is about 5500$. Biggest problem with preifert IMO is they only squeeze from one side, that's why I like the for-most better.

If you are working 400 cows for other people, you are going to want to go away from manual. You'll kill yourself. A few dozen cows, I could go along with it. He is wanting to work cattle for other people. Run 200 head through any of those manual rigs some day. You'll understand. Time is money. Cows are being stressed. The longer they are held up the more will get injured. Get 'em thru. Get 'em out. Or next time the owner will call someone else.

Doc Kinnard out of Mabank, TX has one of the best portable units I have ever worked with. Go take a look at what he had built and reverse engineer it. You get a unit like that, people will call you to come work cows even if they don't really need ya.

As far as the Q-catch, you can post on Ranchers.net under Ranch Talk and a few of the regulars on there have them. They like them. I hate the company that produces them. Can't get them to quit calling me trying to sell stuff - they are worse than telemarketers. Also, Q-catch is a pricey system.

My vote is for Sioux Steel/Real-Tuff chute. You won't find a better cart system for a chute - very simple and stout. They come with a self catch headgate, but you can ask them to remove it (very easy to remove - two bolts) from the cost and put your own scissor-type headgate on. Also, it won't break the bank. Cart and chute cost me $5700.00. Cart also works with their hoof trimming chute - if you ever want to start doing that on the side too. Give Dave a call at Real-Tuff in Clearbrook, MN, he is very easy to get along with - 218-776-3188 or 800-474-6016

If money is no issue, than go for a Stampede Steel. It is built similar to the Sioux Steel, but has the addition of a lever to open and close the headgate from the rear of the chute. Handy for spooky cows. But the chute alone for the Stampede Steel will run around $6,000.00

I completely agree. And that's what I've decided, I'm gonna get a hydraulic. I've ran 200 calves through a Manuel headgate with no squeeze chute before in a few hours, but that's about over.

I got away with not having to call Arrow equipment because my friend down the road is a dealer. So I just ask him for any of their pricing, and then he gets the phone calls. :lol2:

I like the Priefert. Easy to set up, use, and move. Anything better will have to be hydraulic.

I wouldn't say that, but I have spent my life getting by with un desirable and inadequate equipment. So after a while a person gets good at getting by.

Glad to hear an endorsement of Sioux Steel Aaron. Their stuff seems tough as nails. They are making a scissors style head gate now btw.

No. But it appears that they have done away with neck extenders and went to a nose and hold-down bar, but moved the operator handles higher up - which I don't like.

Heading out west this weekend. Gonna work cows for two days straight. Hate going in bare handed but they say they don't need me to bring anything. I have never been to this place and have no idea what kind of facility or equipment they have. These folks have a lot of nickels so I am probably making some bad assumptions based on that.

:lol2: your gonna show up and find out there are no facilities, just a 10 acre pen, then you get a horse and a rope for calves and yearlings, they might run the crazy cows behind a gate to work them though. Have fun at the rodeo :mrgreen:.
