I'm real close to sealing a deal that will send my 3 yr old Boston Mac paint to the mounted unit. Can anyone tell me what is involved with the training?

I am not certain, but it seems like they do a lot of crowd control training locally. Getting them accustomed to holding against pressure on command and lots of exposure to noise and diverse situations. Animal Planet had a special on it once, but that was several years ago. Congratulations! You must be proud!

Ya I'm pretty pleased. He wasn't going to make it as a cow horse. He can't hold a candle my little Smoke-N-Spurs paint. The county Sheriff has been looking at him for a while now. He is real timid when not under saddle. But when you put him to work, look out! It is almost like he is posesed. But a sweetheart too.

Some Horses just have it but most don't - I taught

Left and Right Side Passes then put a 55 gal on it's side and do your side passes over it - barrel between frount and back legs
Left and Right Turns in Place - just leg pressure - you may need your hands
Example -> Direct Traffic
Be able to handle noise
Some horses would learn to Gallop in Place - - The sound of Hoofs/shoes on the street will sure help make crowdes to move out of your way
With a little work and leg/foot presure you can teach them to take one step at a time
Alot of Dresssage work
There's more but that will keep ya busy for sometime
