My son keeping a scour calf company. Note the IV

Very nice, thanks for sharing. Please keep them coming. A caption with each one would be good.

Beautiful country, but I really gotta know.... What do they eat!!

I like the horned cow in the background, she's watching, but not too worried...

Great pics, I would love to see more! What are the ground formations? Thanks for sharing and :welcome:

1) View North of the ranch.
2) badlands
3) Wife and son #2 scratching a calf. This calf was down pretty bad due to mama having enlarged teats. Mama not pictured, red longhorn has her calf beside her.
4) Badlands
5) wife, ranch hand, and son #1 pushing cows home.
6) calf in a sinkhole. We were able to rope and pull her to safety. She is now named spelunker.
7) daughter playing with calf.
8) view from top of one of the canyons.
9) bottle orphan. Lost his mom.

Having a hard time editing from my phone, so please see below.

Thanks for sharing those photos. Looks like you got a great family, and a good place too.

Great pictures vaquero! Thanks for sharing. That's beautiful country out there but mighty dry. It just goes to show we all adapt to our environment. You have got to tell us the story on the calf in the hole.

Calf was up in a box canyon. We spotted him while gathering and went in on foot to bring him out. being a calf, he decided to try to run up and away. when he got to the top of the canyon he lost his footing and slid down into the hole.
Sinkholes like this were everywhere and it was a little treacherous reaching the calf safely.
We were able to pull it with a rope around its neck and two strong men.
This was about a month ago now.

Great looking place. Landscape sure is different than anything I've ever been accustomed to. How many acres per cow-calf pair do you run on a place like that?

More like how many acres per pair.
It is honestly about 10 acres per pair.
We are currently feeding due to the drought. What a nightmare.

Dang I would have thought more like a hundred acres or more. Where's the groceries??

They travel many miles, eat shrubs and grass, and it helps that they summer in the mountains with plenty of grass.
The pics you are seeing are all taken this winter. Not much grass started up until now.

Interesting landscape. What type rock is that. Volcanic or weathered limestone. Those sinkholes smell of rattlesnakes to me.

The mountains have to be a hell of a lot better to get 10 acres to a cow.
