One thing I HATE as much as I hate pasture weeds is Phone Solicitors. I get atleast 10 calls daily with some @$$ HOLE telling me he we just saw your truck and would like to tell you how we are helping tree service companies in your area and how to build your clientele that really burns me up     . I also get people calling saying I noticed you have no website we can get you set up and double your business over night. If I got here without you I don't need you. If I need you I will do a search for you. Why do companies do that ? I know people need a job but I need my phone line to be my business line not get filled up once a day because of solicitors. It really ticks me off. Does anyone hate phone solicitors as much as I do?

They do it because it's the only way they know how to make a buck. They don't have a reputation that makes people flock to them.

I wish the law would ban people from doing those practices. I know everyone needs a job and wants to support their family but come on now. I don't ride around looking at peoples trees asking them can I take them down.

While I feel your pain at least the person on the other end of the line is working and not drawing social assistance every day - like 47% of the population - while people yell and swear at them. I now just politely say no thank you and hang up.

It is not the person - it is the company that hires them that is the problem - they look to make a buck - there are often quotas as well. So the actual caller often is under the gun to succeed or lose that job as well.

Always two sides to the story I think

Cheers

I completely sympathise with the people who are doing the calling, as I'm certain it's not what they figured they'd be doing when they graduated high school... Around here we get a lot of automated messages and they drive me nuts even more.. the WORST part is a lot of it is ON BEHALF OF THE GOV'T!!!, either for statistics, elections, or some darned poll I couldn't give a rodent's rectum about.

I usually manage to keep my cool, but if I get too many in too short a time, I start by just hanging up, and it gets worse from there when they call me early mornings or late evenings, especially on the weekend.

I agree about them not being on welfare and trying to make it but I am paying for my phone and its costing me money behind their non-sense just as its costing them to make the calls to me to get no results. One company seriously has called last 3 years I told them no 3 years ago they still leave me messages. I think the company is called home advisor now.

I get'em too Sky...Have always tried to be nice and even acknowledge to them that I realize they are trying to make a living too but I just really don't need what they are offering. Even thank them for calling and excuse myself. Of course I always tek the literature the Jehovah's witnesses are passing out too. They get credit for it. ;-)

Sky, you need to just take a deep breath and go with the flow. Try and make friends with them. Ask them about the weather. Their kids. How they are doing. Ask them about their pets and what they are planning to do for the fourth of July but by all means keep them occupied and on the phone because once you hang up they are apt to be calling me. BTW - if you do this and they are selling something by all means feel free to use my credit card number. Its a Visa and the number is 7. The four digit security code is also 7 so it will be easy for you to remember when they get finished filling out all the order forms and are ready for your payment.

Got another offer today to sell my timeshare. Told the fella that if he could find it I would just sign a quit claim deed and give it to him.

After a long silence he says I wonder how you ended up on our list, I said your guess is as good as mine, call back real soon. ;-)

I had a call today while we were eating dinner I knew it was a solicitor calling my house phone and decided to be a butthead guy was selling windows told me he was calling to offer me the deal of the lifetime on windows after reading yalls post I decided today I was not going to be nice as TB and decided to have fun with them like Jo guy I said sir I sure am glad you called he said why is that I said I need new windows he said that's great. He asks how many windows are in your home. I said I just counted today and there are a total of 29 windows he asked the size I said 36 x 72 he said wow I can work you the deal of a lifetime asks me all kinds of questions we played on the phone for 10 minutes he asks where my home was I said Alaska and can only be reached by a dog sled team and crossing a large frozen lake they hung up on me the nerve of them.

He was thinking you were an indian that's why the deal of a lifetime but when he found out you were really an Inuit he had to go and discriminate against you. Surely you have some sort of good grounds of a lawsuit.

Jo I already called my lawyer we are filing first thing Monday morning lol I gotta admit it was pretty fun wasting his time since he was bothering me lol

You might want to pick Gimpyrancher's brain cause it sounds like he has sued about everyone there is to sue and he might could give you some pointers.

Watch it Joe--you may be next on Gimpy's list.

I haven't had a land line for about 6 years, so I rarely get them any more. Although I helped my son buy a used truck last year and they are about to wear me out trying to sell an extended warranty on it. I hope I can remember that if I'm ever involved in buying a vehicle from a dealership again to not give them my cell phone number.

Years ago, and I mean like 30 years ago, I'd often get calls from people trying to sell aluminum siding. If I wasn't busy I'd sometimes listen to them, saying "Uh-huh" every once in a while like I might be interested, until they finally ran out of gas. Then I'd tell the I rent my house and I don't think my landlord is interested, or that my house already has vinyl siding. It wouldn't take them long to hang up.

LOL my cell # is on all my trucks so that's how they have mine.

No call list. Don't they have one where you live? I thought it was nationwide. Once we registered on the no call list, our phone calls went way down.

How I treat the actual caller depends on how they act. The hall of shame goes to a "tax resolution" company that got wind of a problem between my employer and the state. They called and were very pushy, demanding and tried to intimidate. I assured them the boss's CPA and attorney had things under control, thanks anyway. Finally had to hang up, they wouldn't quit. They actually called right back, twice!
