We have a No call list... I find it's pretty toothless though, and you have to renew it every year or something. I'd like to see something where firstly they're obliged to tell you where they got your number, remove you from the list, and limit how many times they can attempt to call you.

Another thing that bothers me is every time I deal with some company reps, I get some automated message asking me to answer a questionaire about how well the person did their job and if my problem got resolved.

I'd like to see the registered name come up on cell phones for numbers that aren't in your contacts.. If you're doing business with your cell phone you can't very well not answer it, so you're stuck dealing with these people... I hope there's a special place in hell for them!

I put my number on the no-call list several years ago, and it has worked well. I don't get any calls from anyone selling stuff anymore. With call ID, I ignore numbers I don't recognize or know that I have business with. I figure if it's important, they will leave a message or call back, and if I don't recognize it, it can't be that important.

Recently, however, the number from my Alma mater popped on the screen. I was going to ignore it, but my daughter, who is a couple of years from college, said, "Get it dad, it might be something for me." So, I answered, and the lady just wanted to update my info since I am an alumni. She verified address and wanted to know if I was working within my degree. She had a few similar experiences and we actually chatted for a few minutes. I thought I was home free; however, before she hung up, she wanted to know if i would make a $100 donation to the alumni association. I declined, so she said she realized $100 was a lot and asked for $50. I declined again, but I was pleasant the entire time. Then, she wanted to know if I wanted to subscribe to the alumni magazine for $30 a year. Again, I passed. It was all pleasant, but I would rather have been eating cardboard.

The steak sellers aren't something that happens really often here, but when it does, it's always the same story. Somebody pulls up in a small refrigerated truck and for some reason or other, the original destination has cancelled the order, or something like that. That leaves them with meat to sell, and they can give it to you at discount prices. Whopiiiiiii.

I have found that when they call I tell them I am busy but would be glad to call them back on their home phone or cell when they get home. They just hang up.

Nonprofits (colleges, charities...) aren't subject to the national Do Not Call registry but my understanding is that they (and anyone else you ask) must put you on their own Do Not Call List, when asked to.
One thing my spouse does, when the credit card companies (or others) call offering some great loan deal, is to tell them we belong to a religion that has renounced all forms of credit as being the work of the devil. That shuts them up. And has the benefit of being sorta kinda true...
