Help Support CattleToday:

Different manufacturers mark their pipe differently. There should be some type of identification markings on it giving you the size, pressure rating, material and manufacture. Most of the roll plastic pipe used in the plumbing industry for under ground use is HDPE (high density polyethylene). This pipe is more durable than sch. 40. Since the pipe will bend more than sch. 40 it is more forgiving in the trench. It's not as brittle or fragile, especially when cold. The only draw back to this type of pipe is the brass fittings that should be used with this material. They are expensive in comparison to most other types of fittings. But as someone mentioned earlier, pay me now or pay me later.

Instead of sleaving the pipe have you thought of placing fill sand in the trench. we try to backfill half of the trench with sand. Lets thing move around and not hurt the pipe. We just get blow sand out of our pasture and use it for fill.

Could you explain this a little more please especally the blow sand from the paddock
What is it and how do you collect it?

Howdy,
In areas with freezing conditions, I would suggest you go with the higher end hdpe black high pressure (240psi) and heat on your brass connector's. Usually purchase a 500' roll or more. Sch 40 can't even compare to the longevity to the black in a trench in the ground.

blow sand or sugar sand is just real fine sand like you might find on the beach. Our pasture our sand based soil and we have some sandhills that will not support grass, just brush so we go in and haul the sand out imstead of going to a quarry or sand pit on the river (commercial operations). We are usually able to level out the hills and then establish grass. Use al oader and dump truck to haul it
