For those of you who have your heifers pelvic scored (measured? not sure on the proper term) what is the minimum score you like to see on a heifer you will be retaining? I have 3 heifers that will be a year old in May/June and planning to have them done by the vet when they are old enough. I assume my vet would know, but sometimes a vets minimum and a producers minimum are two different things :)
As another question, I just bought an Angus bull. I didn't specifically buy him with the intent to use him on heifers because I mostly have cows and will try to AI the three heifers mentioned above first then pasture expose them. This bull has a +8 CED and a +2.6 BW with an actual BW of 81 lbs. Would any of you use him on heifers or do you prefer to see a lower actual BW for heifers? I do have another young bull that weighed 70 lbs at birth that I was thinking about putting with them instead, only problem with him is he is not registered... he was born here though so I know his BW is accurate but obviously I don't know anything else.
I have a Hereford bull too, but with a +4.8 BW and a -0.6 CED he is out of the question for hefiers :)
