With almost perfect weather, turned the 25 weaned heifers on this Pearl Millet patch less than 3 weeks after planting. Planted on June 2nd. This should keep them happy all summer..

Looks good JS, did you disk then plant? Have you fertilized? I'm asking because it sure looks better than ours that was drilled, and at this point unfertilized.

6 Acres, yes most summers we get enough rain to keep it going..

21 Angus Heifers
2 Baldie heifers
2 SimAngus Heifers.

GM,
Yes Lime and Fertilizer too.. This is at Jacky's,behind his house.. The cows will go out on a different patch (~30 acres) this week too.. We have always had much better luck discing it on plowed ground. We never have been good enough farmers to get a decent stand drilling it in permanent pasture..

Hopefully we will get some rain in the next week, waiting on some to drop some fertilizer it's coming just nothing like what you have. Heifers look great!

Yeah we will need some rain by next week for sure. We have one more field to plant gonna try some brown top millet for a cutting of hay.. Thanks for the comments on the heifers, they were the ones at the barn..

So what happens to that millet if it doesn't rain right quick on it?
You guys ever try Sudan grass? Thanks for the post. Where are those Angus from? They look beefy!

If it gets really dry there is a small chance of prussic acid, so you have to have a plan b in case of drought..

Never tried Sudan, we have been happy with pearl. We are gonna try and plant some brown top millet later this summer..

The Angus cows are mostly Sydgen based breeding with a dash of Oneill Angus.. The bred heifer above is an Oneill Adventure daughter out of a Sydgen Corona cow..

The little boss couldn't stand it and put the heifers out on the millet this weekend for a few hours. The big boss got some fertilizer on it today so hopefully it will really take off.

A side note they did spray pig weed last week so hopefully that will die a slow painful death! I hate pig week!

What a difference a week makes. We had the hoped for rain, the boss was able to get some fertilizer out and we have us some happy cows.

Yes.. ours looks horrible, the army worms found it as quick as the cows. Got them sprayed and looks like they are all dead thankfully.
