No big news at the farm today..all goats were present and accounted for....I am liking BUCKY, the new kiko Billy. He. Is real good natured and comes every time I rattle a bucket. I can already lead him with his collar and he is not aggressive at all. Very laid back.
Today was the day scheduled to begin synchronization of my cows for breeding. They all had to have a shot. I had sorted them out yesterday and put them in a lot. Went to get them and the calves were missing. They had slipped thru the electric fence and I had to go round them up and drive them back to the cows....ever tried to drive a hand full of two month old calves..finally got them back with the mamas and walked every body to the barn....that was the hard part...
My cows had not been to the barn since last year's breeding at Thanksgiving weekend.
But they went into the barn and into the pens and all six of them filed into the chute..that's right. All six of them auto loaded.
My secret is that I feed them a small cup of feed every time I put them thru the chute. My cows like to go thru the chute. The biggest problem I had was that Wanda was at the back of the line and she wanted to be at the front of the line. She kept pushing those in front of her. Wanda is a dainty little 1500 lb girl and nobody wants to be between her and groceries.
