Paul Newman

Help Support CattleToday:

I just read that before I logged on. So sad. I love his movies. He will be missed.

I met him once while I was in college. He and Redford were in Durango Colo, filming Butch Cassidy. He came to the college and spoke to our English Lit class. He was a good guy. Made good movies and made a lot of people happy.

Occasionally there is a NASCAR interview which rises above the "big box retailer, caffeinated soft drink Ford funny car was really right today".
From the corner of my eye yesterday, I heard Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports talk about his connection to Paul Newman.
Newman was a very skilled amateur racer, you know. And a team owner.
Hendrick said he put Newman in a NASCAR at, I think, Charlotte, and Newman turned some very competitive laps. Not in a race. Alone on the track. But, he was 72 at the time. Wow!

I actually believe if he had started racing in his teens, instead of at 43.....he could have and would have been a world class driver. Some consider him anyway. I have read that he said, he only continued to act, to fund his racing desires.
