Just curious if there is a company that will come out and look at a pasture and recommend what herbicide is best?

In Virginia our Ag Extension agent will do that.

Same in Tennessee. In fact, our local co-op might come out to inspect if you use their spraying service and truck.

It will thin your clover but about slick everything else off while it greens up your grass. I would like to try it on some buttercup.

Yes.

Check with your local co-op/ feed store. A lot of them do fert/ herb applications or they can probably tell you who does. There are usually contractors that just do that. They will talk with you or come out and give a price per acre.

Google is also a big help.

I want to say 2pts of Grazon Next is running about mid to upper $20s per acre, applied. If they are already there doing herb it might not hurt to throw a little fert in with it. They make more money on fert and it can help to make it worth while for them on small acreage. Just tell them to stay off your fences. This time of year it can help with drift also.

I've used fertilizer coated with Grazon on and off for the past 5 years or so, Co-Op charges for the cost of the Grazon and that's it. Effectiveness depends on a lot of things - timing, rainfall, etc. I've got mixed feelings on it, but it's cheap enough since the truck is already in there. Tried Duracor one year and wasn't impressed whatsoever.

Thanks for the information. Some of the guys lined up to load their fertilizer mix I talked with about it and they were trying it. Will be interesting next year how they feel. The coop had mixed several 100 gallons already this spring. I am a fan of the slow released applied fertilizer. It is a slower green up, but the end results seem good.

Just keep in mind that you get very little leaf contact and basically all of the work is done by the residual effect from the soil. So if you're trying to kill mustard or something that has already bolted, you're pretty much wasting your time. Timing is everything.

Just keep in mind that you get very little leaf contact and basically all of the work is done by the residual effect from the soil. So if you're trying to kill mustard or something that has already bolted, you're pretty much wasting your time. Timing is everything.

I kind of figured maybe late fall might be a good time to spread the fertilizer with the mix to get some weed thinning. I have used a mist blower for years (mixed very strong) and other than the early spring buttercup not a lot of weeds. As soon as the hot weather gets here is goes as fast as it comes.

I've always had the Co-Op spread it, never asked. Grazon Next is available here without a license, so that may be an option if so. Can you buy Grazon Next over the counter in TX?

I’m pretty sure you can buy small quantities of it at tractor supply. It is priced high. More for a pump sprayer than a 3 pt. Etc….

You can buy as many 1 qt jugs of 2,4d Amine as you wish in Texas. Ya just can't buy it in a bigger container without an applicator's lic. IIRC, there are also different regs for 2,4d ester than 2,4d amine. I once bought 3 cases (36 individual quarts) of it (Amine) in Liberty Texas and the salesperson never batted an eye.
Obviously, it was/will also be more expensive to purchase 10 qts of 2,4d than a single 2 1/2 gal jug.
