Packer cows were up some more this week. Nickle a pound according to the sale report. Sold two yesterday.
One was 1390 lbs at .55. She was 8 or 9 years old. Aborted her calf.
The other was a real old cow with no teeth that tested preg a couple months ago but came back into heat. 1120 lbs at .56

Saw that and re ran some "cow value" numbers. With the increase in hay prices - - many would be better off culling a few big uns for $800 to $950 per head.

It cost me $400 to swap these two old opens for two young short 4 month bred black mots. The youngsters were just fair quality in my opinion but have potential. One was called a 3YO the other wasn't aged. Might be a heifer? Maybe both? About 850 lb'ers. I think they will both do well and put on some weight this spring.

The big cows (1500 lbs) coming through if bred 4 months or less mostly go to the packers.

i have a 2100+ lb hereford i bought cheap to get a calf.. well.. she just had a unfinished calf so away she goes. can't win for losin.
