over due cow

This is a 3rd time calver, she was confirmed pregnant with a blood test 40 days after ai'd and I have never seen her come into heat or show signs of it. But she doesn't look pregnant to me :???: She is 5 days over due with no bag and not what I would call swollen female parts. she has had discharge for about a week or a little over then I noticed a blob of bloody discharge, then not really anything after that.

Her attitude is when she is fed slow to go to feed and laying down a lot she also seems a little stiff or limp like a nerve is pinched.
Ok what I have wrote so far, you would think preg but normal late. I look back at my records and this cows always been early with lots of sign of pregnancy. So here is the question should I do anything??? Palpate her (rectal or vag) looking for a mis presentated calve? or have another beer and chill?

It would seem that she should show some signs. I would be concerned she slipped the calf. At this stage, a rectal palpate would definitely show a calf if she still has it.

I think she slipped it. dang I am bummed!!! Not sure when, but I never saw her cycle back thru? not sure why that is

if you recently saw a bloody blob, she probably calved on time and something got her calf. That is my guess.

sorry fire sweep I didn't give you all the info, would have had sense with the info I gave you . But cows are in the barn and have been with a very small paddock that they go out into checked 3-5 hrs intervals. Plus I don't have many cows and they are pretty much all 4h or ex 4h projects.

My guess is, she may have cycled and she was slimed up a bit from cycling but not a strong cycle? I don't know!! the facts are not a good year from the get go. ai's didn't seem to take, although had a heifer just calve and this cow and heifer where ai'd at the same time. and both confirmed with blood tests, heifer showed lots of sign but cow not bagged up little swallon on female parts and did have clear mucus discharge the one day a blob of bloody discharge.

Oh, so you would have seen something. After 4 months, if a cow slips a calf, the fetus is often found in a confinement setting (unless you have dogs). I worked on a diary for years, and often found a fetus out in the pen (CA dairies - all confinement). Or the farm dogs would drag one up to the milk barn (yuck). How close do you watch your cows, to where you might see a heat on her? You are right, the blood you saw was probably ovulatory blood, which can be seen several days after a standing heat. If you can find a livestock marker (also known as a grease pen), you can stripe her tail head and when it disappears, you know she stood right before. Since we check the cows twice a day at least, I usually see a cow in heat, but there have been times the chalk was rubbed off, gone, and I know she stood during the night or between checks. Just throwing some ideas out there for you.
Sorry you lost the pregnancy. That is always a real bummer.

I am going to take a few of your suggestions, and use heat indicators, and vitaferm mineral that you posted on another thread. I am going to the Ohio beef expo to get my semen for the year but have ordered the mineral for next week.
as far as watching our cows I thought we do a pretty good job at it but you may be right it could happen at night or maybe I just missed it, not sure. I think I am going to synch them to come in first week in april and go from there that should give the mineral time to get into there system. as of now we used a loose general breeding mineral but also multi min 90, our vet is big on that.
I am going to chaulk this one up too a learning experience! maybe she never took and had a false positive with the blood test.
