Trying to do some research on ordering buying companies and have only found a handful such as JJ, Taylor Cattle, Scarmardo.. what others do you know of? I’m guessing different companies call it different things since I can only find a handful with google searches

We have a couple big order buyers that will buy cows or off hand calves for folks. Last I had bought they charged $10 a head.

People say, well i will just save the $10 and buy myself. Sometimes it is much cheaper to let a good buyer do it for you.
I would never, ever, employ someone to buy animals for me. What a can of worms that would be. They don't have my eye, and they can only understand what I want and what my criteria are if they really listen... which is a recipe for disaster.
I can see someone buying for a feedlot, because the goal is a uniform lot of a specific type and the feedlot can adjust to what they get in many cases.
But nope, not for animals to go in my pastures. I'd be blaming them for their poor choices or lack of understanding in ninety percent of cases. And then I'd be kicking my own butt for deciding to try it.

I usually only buy for myself but see many people, some beginners and some not, that could pay a good buyer to do a better job than they do. I have a few people that just call and say buy me some cows. Or buy me a bull.
Dont you have a goal of uniform calves or cows? A good buyer can recognize that goal better than most people.

Yes, I think uniformity is important. But what another person would think I want, after I describe it, may be quite different than what I would choose.
I can see how someone without experience or a good eye might hire someone. It's just not for me.

Some order buyers are living examples of why mothers of some eat their young.
Back in the day (late fifties or early 60’s) Grandpa used an order buyer to put together a group of cows for him. His biggest stipulation was that there be no black cows in the group. Well the cows showed up and there was a black one in the group. Probably not the end of the world but when the vet came and tested for brucellosis it happened she was the only one to test positive and of course a quarantine followed. For a year.

There would be a significant urge to kill involved there...

No way I'd buy my own cows around here. I can't look one over that fast, I don't have all day to sit there, and I'm not in the know as to who's buying for who that day. Our weekly sales have over 1,500 hd most weeks and we have several guys in area running 1,000-3,000 hd. When those guys start buying they'll buy every good cow that comes through.

There was an order buyer around here that was pretty crooked. He actually got deep enough into a sale barn that it closed.
Anyway a car with Missouri plates was sitting on the road outside this guy’s house. A neighbor stopped and asked if the driver was okay. He had a rifle on his lap and just said that he was “Waiting for that Son of a B!tch to poke his head out”

There are good honest order buyers out there and there are ones as crooked as he77. The more you know them and they know you the better off you will be. Trouble is you have to hang around the sale yard a lot to get to know them. By the time you have hung out there that much you could probably just buy them yourself. There are ones I have no problem leaving an order with.
