This is Thunder. He was born May/5/06... so he is 9 months old. He weighed 495 on 11/16/06.

This is Fred Moo. He is 10 months and he was born on April/28/06. I bottle feed him. His mother died 2 hours after he was born. He weighed 475 on 11/16/06.

Thunder is the one who draged me around the yard. What do you think? I dont care how harsh you are it is my first year. Just tell me. Dont ask about the names. I didnt name them my girl friend did. I will take better pics when the weather is much better.

Well, first of all, these aren't very good pics. They are taken from above the steers. Also, you should probably take more pics when you don't have so much snow and when your calves are cleaned up a bit. It is hard to judge them when they have a bunch of snow on them and when the pics are taken at weird angles.

But, from the pics, I like Fred Moo better.

Just take more pictures when it is better outside. And take the pics eye level with the calves.

I think they should weigh more for being 10mths most 10mths wiegh almost double that. The calves really don't look all that bad, just take some better pic's. Good Luck

What do you mean? thoses weights were from back in November of 2006. Yeah of course they weight more. I just havent weighted them up to date.

Personally, I like the top steer better. it might be the way they are standing, but to me, both need some muscle fillling...(I am gonna try to explain it)...the 'gap' of muscle in the top of their tail to their legs.(side veiw... back veiw looks good)
I do recomend brushing them off, cleanin them up, and taking some better pictures, easier to see the calves that way.

It is cold here. It was like 15 degrees today.I am hopefully going to get better pics tommorw if we have another snowday. But keep looking for updates.

oh thats not too cold..today the high was 4..it stayed below zero most of the time.

Muscle, besides genetics, exercise and a good feeding program can help a lot...

4-H Kid, you said that it was your first year. They are not bad for first year cattle. I wouldn't try anything drastic like paylean or implants. You can really do harm to them by feeding it and not knowing what you are doing. Yes, they could use more muscle in their lower quarter, but that is something that generally comes from genetics. Also, if I could change them both, I would make them wider based, but then again, it could be that they are cold. Get the snow brushed off and take some different pictures. Maybe we could be of more help then! :D

It is my first year showing cattle, but we have have cattle on the farm for years and years. My dad has had them since he was like 15 years old and he is know 45. I am going to get better pics. I wonder how it is out side? I will go see in a mintue. What is cow hock? Does he really look like he has cow hock? Cowgirl...how old are you? How long have you been showing? Rasing cattle?

I agree that I would not recomend feeding paylean or giving implants, I was just stating that SOME people do. I also agree that they are good for first year....many people in my county show a LOT worse than that and they have been showing just as long as I have.

4-H kid, if you wanna go the implant way, talk to your vet, thats what we did last year

The only time that I have used implants was last year on my steer. I have been showing for...somewhere between five and seven years, but I have been around cattle all of my life.
