Opinions on this heifer

she does have a bit of a masculine face but you know what...i think once she gets cleaned up and you get her hair real pretty, she'll look a great deal better. she looks like she's got a good amount of hair on her...which is good when you get to showing, too. all in all i don't think she'd be too bad. do you have other choices you're trying to decide between? or do you already have this heifer?
shes not a bad heifer, but i doubt she'd win a show. as far as the hair goes, once you feed her she'll probably slick up some. and the rat hair that is left will be kinky and you will need some afrosheen. (? or something). the tail might be enough to be the deciding factor between her and another heifer. All in all, she looks like a nice heifer, would likely make a good cow. the first thing i notice though, besides her tail is her manly head.

Just my opinion, I'd go with the steer. Better conformation. A good looking animal. ;-)

The first heifer just doesn't have it for show stock. The second heifer is a lot closer, but doesn't exhibit enough power, and is too light boned to fair well in the Commercial classes. The steer shows some possibility if he is the correct age for when you need him to finish. He looks fairly level, seems to show some muscle in the stifle, has adequate bone, and looks as though he might have workable hair. He doesn't appear to have a lot of extension to his neck, but it's not bad either.

The steer's age should make him good to start as a prospect this Fall and show as a Market Steer in the Spring of 2007.

you need to get lower when you photograph those animals. in both pictures they appear dumpy and squattier than they are in reality, i hope. The black heifer doesnt quite cut it either. shes got great carrying capacity but shes a little weak in the butt and shes got problems in the face too. she almost looks like a dwarf in the head! also shes not clean fronted, shes got something going on under her neck, i dont know where that loose skin came from...about all that i can say good about her is that shes got GREAT carrying capacity adn a straight topline. the steer might work.

Came out of a Limo cow, not sure what the sire was.
Would we be better off buying her something insteas of picking from calves we have?
Got another heifer that might work, but will have to get a pic.

tom.....rather to buy one or use one of yours is probably a matter of how competitive you want to be? what kind of shows you want to show at? If it is her first time and she is young and you just want to show at your county fair and let her see how she likes it and how she takes care of an animal one of yours might work, look at each of them's disposition. Or you could sale one of these at the market and put a little with it and get her a heifer to show that would end up making a nice addition to your herd.
