i don't think he's got a problem... .. but no matter how clean you keep one, its not a trait i want to pass on. they can be as fertile or more so than any, but they got to be able aim first .ROB":2yv240xr said:TNMasterBeefProducer":2yv240xr said:Hes a pecker dragger.
he is a lot cleaner sheathed than our current braunvieh herdsire (which has no trouble covering twice if not three times as many cows as our angus herdsire). i really don't see a concern with his bottomline. nothing a little cleaning up during the annual soundness exam wouldn't fix. my vet laughs every time i bring in a braunvieh bull for a soundness exam. says he cant believe the amount of activity under the microscope. they are very fertile, aggressive breeders. clean sheath or not they now how to use what daddy gave'm. to date with braunvieh bulls, i have never had one run over his toolbox.

i agree with your statement - i'm just trying to point out that our herdsire, who is not clean sheathed, and is a very aggressive breeder, and does cover a lot of cows...consistently, apparently does not have any problem with his aim, and has never been hurt in the process. this is not a problem that i have been made aware of from other braunvieh breeders that i converse with. personally, i do prefer a cleaner sheathed bull- but if the overall quality of a bull is good, and he has the other traits i am looking for, the sheath is a pretty minor issue for me. i tend to think that a bulls consistent breeding ability has more to do with his athletesism...i.e. power in both his hind legs to maintain good balance, and his conditioning...ability to cover a number of cows without taking a breather, and his aggressiveness...ability to cover a number of cows... repeatidly, without taking a breather.

i downloaded his linear measurements today, they are as follows:
frame score: 5.6
365 Adj Hip: 50.3
365 Adj Girth: 71.3
365 Adj Top: 71.3
364 Adj Sh W: 3.50
365 Adj Rump Width: 22.0
Rump Width %: 43.83
Rump Length %: 35.20
Adj Neck: -2.26
i was really impressed with the information that is being provided with this sale offering. 95 bulls to be sold on April 9th - each with the linear measurements, Rea, IMF, BF, ADG, and RFI. And although this is not a large sale, it is a sale represented by diverse group of breeders - so a fairly broad range of genetics are made available at one location.
