Curious for everyones opinion on this Black Baldy heifer? She is a low dollar heifer something to show at county and then make a cow.

Let me know what you think? She is $750.00

I would by her at $750 just for the cow end of things whether you showed her or not.

That is kind of what I thought!

By the way she is out of a Hereford Bull and a Payback Angus x Simmental cow.

She's not bad, aside from the fact that she really is lacking in depth. I'd still breed from her tho, she ain't that bad. LOVE the length and femininity about her.

Around here, she would hold her own around some of the higher dollar animals I see. Looks like someone has been spending some time with her. I like her. Let us know how you do and good luck!

Heck, me too as long as she's sound. She probably won't be the best show heifer, but so what. She has that "momma cow" look about her.

If she is just a comm. hfe hog her up and you will do well. But make the decision do you want to show and win or do you want a cow. The Hfr appears to have a a lot of extension but lacks depth of body and capacity. So if you want to show and be competative fatten to the point where she will grade, trust me she will carrry it because she has so much extension in her spine. As fat as feet and legs i cant tell you how she will do there.

We like to compete and win, but do not have to with every animal we show. This would be a tag along with our other heifers and steers that would be more competitive.

Mostly I am looking at her for my daughter to have as a cow later because she loss her cow to calving paralysis (the one in my avatar) a month ago. She gets excited about ones she thinks are pretty, she likes them with some white on them. It would never go anywhere but at our local County Fair. Unless of course she looks a lot better in person then she could tag along to some other shows with us.

Sorry for your loss. That's how my 1st show heifer died. Iwish lots of show ring luck to you and your daughter.

All i was stating was that if you wanted to win with that heifer she needs to be hogged up. if it is just a calf for your daughter to have a cow you still need some bark on the heifer. What i see now in the show ring is that it is a fat competetion. If you want to do well with a heifer get to the point where she will grade, then put another 200 lbs of grease on her. That is why in Canada at least for heifer jackpots guys are showing percentages so the loss is not that much when you cull her after the first calf.

Yea I hate how shows have went that way. They have started using them Steer looking heifers way to much. Hopefully it will go back the other way, were a heifer is picked for it future cow potential not how much it looks like a fat steer.

That is the way of the show ring - extremes and fads, and you can fight them or follow them. I do my own thing and let the cards fall where they may.

Steers are the only thing I pay any attention to on the changing fads, they can be corrected in next years purchases. Heifers I want them to be able to become cows.

But I did mess up and get one a couple years ago that was the wrong type and I paid the price with it dying at Calving time. :(

Well I bought this heifer. Just got back from getting her. I am pretty happy with her and my daughter really likes her. She is a lot thicker made than what I thought she was from the pic, which might help since she will show in Cross bred class. She is real gentle and most of all she was Cheap  For $750.00 and already dead broke figured I could not go to wrong. Probably show once or twice and then make her a cow.

I will post some pics in future and see how she turns out.

Thanks for the input on her!
