Man it felt good to shoot my 12 guage the other day! Got invited to a deer camp in Comanche, Tx. 4 limits
hunting about 100 yards of water dribbling in a " dry creek" that ran across the place. If there had been any food around it would have been something else I suppose. That little bit of water was all we needed to have a great hunt. The only complaint was I think we got there too early. The good part of that was we did not have to stand in line at Coopers to get a plate of barbque before heading to the camp. :) They really didn't start flying until past 4pm but it was not long before I had a limit and was complaining about having to keep walking back to the truck to get more shells :cry2: 60 birds , no one got shot and a bowl of sausage and dove gumbo is coming up for lunch! How was your hunt?

Our season doesn't start for awhile yet. But if I downed 60 birds at my shot to kill ratio that would equal 300 shells and one sore shoulder. Good hunting!

I didn't limit yet. Got close twice. I always hunt my own fields and bring in several friends. I have had an 19 month old and 5 year old grandson each trip. Don't know how many times I have gone back to hunting only to see some had lofted right over my head while I was tending to things.

It has been a good season this year.

Nothing will be like '98 tho. I only hunted 14 minutes opening day that year. Fastest limit I have ever seen. Couldn't keep the gun loaded. A week later they had all gone south.

I shot 7 and burned 10 shells yesterday evening. Wind got up today from Lee and they were flying high enough for anti aircraft this morning.
I was thinking about that yesterday when I heard a bunch of shooting....with 20 mph winds....probably needed surface to air missiles to reach em.... :P but hey, making noise is a big part of the fun....

There were 7 of us spread around a 33 acre field on Saturday. A group of about a dozen or more white wings circled through. Not one of us got a shot. They were just out of reach of everyone they went close to.

I have yet to get a double this year.

Never seen anything like it here with the drought dove hunting here is like south Texas for birds. We have even had some white wings move up here. I have been hunting a lane of tree's between about a 100 acres of goat weed and my stock tank. Have been sitting in a lawn chair with a cooler under a red bud tree with Rube. Shoot one and Rube retrieves it I never have to leave my chair. Life is good.

They're flying devils I tell ya

Don't come close to wood duck's in the creek bottom, bout the time you get the slack out of the trigger he ain't there.
I don't see how they don't run into or limb once in awhile, I never cease to be amazed at how they can corner, dip, dive and go straight up 50 feet.

I remember the first time I saw a wood duck fly into a hole in a cypress tree. I thought I was seeing thing s .

Northern Central Texas Dove Report. Birds started flyin onto a hi line and some dead trees and then launched into the neighbors new tank. I must have seen over 100 birds today and most in flights of 4/6 of more. A beautifull sight execpt they were way out of reach. Nice sunset and Milo fetched the two birds we shot out of some heavy timber. All good despite the fact we did not kill many birds. A good hunt for my lil dog Milo. He exceeded all my expectations! We will be back soon! :)

The local population has cleared out, I don't know if it was the recent rain or the cool front that came through.
Had only four birds come in this morning and I got them.

That sounds like a good hunt but I hope you have another hunt like this next time or next year because if not ..... you've ruined yourself because every hunt will be judged by this one. Least that's what happened to me when I hunted with some politicians in a field the DNR baited for them. It ruined me for several years. Its amazing what $6000 worth of corn will do for a bird hunt. :lol2:
