open replacement heifers

had a good day yesterday.loaded the nephew an his partners heifers an took them to the vets tobe worked/the vet said they weighed prolly 1100lbs or more at 15 months or a tad younger.then we went to my buddies to buy 3 more reg beefmaster open heifers.talk about prices going up.the heifers they bought last year was about $950 a hd.the heifers this year was $1400 a hd.he has been selling them for $1400 ea since dec.the boys ended up picking out 3 heifers.they wanted 4 but got cheap at $1400 lolol.he said he sold 8 heifers for $1400 to a lady in dec.he said mam you got 8 heifers picked dont you care about the price.she says no im buying the heifers.an she also bought a bull that day.3wks later when she picked them up she bought 4 more heifers.

Congrats on the purchases, what breeding are they? 1400 sounds like a good price, I would not sale mine for no less (Spartcus grand daughters), especially if they had no black influence .

Glad your happy with the animals. Personally I would pass on them. Unless they were extremely fat, which would be another reason to pass on them. A heifer that weighs 1100 pounds at 15 months is going to make a monster cow. Very few pastures in the south are going to support that animal without a lot of added supplementation.

te heifers put that weight on strictly from summer pasture an feed once a wk to gentle them.this winter was the same except grazing rye grass,very little feed during the week an round bale every now an then during the winter.they are of top bloodlines.
