No. Ive been hunting them for about 6 years

I have always wanted to hunt gator!! What method do you use to hunt them with?

treble hook on a HD reel is the easiest. Although last year because of the late draw I had success with floating bait. I take whole chickens run my line threw the side attach my 2” wood peg to the outside of the chicken and spray foam in the cavity once that dries I freeze them until about 2 day before I hunt and let them set in the sun to spoil . we have to have the line attached to the boat so I anchor off up river from where the gator is at and let the bait float toward him. I use paracord for my line. Once he has the bait and I can get him up I harpoon him then bang stick him

You do it the same way we do. Throwing a snatch hook works great early on. We didnt get drawn this year out of 6 applications. They are really limiting tags this year I guess

I hit first draw and 1st phase this year but last year I had to wait until 2nd draw first come first served. and got 3rd phase

last year there were 7300+ gators taken in florida about 62% of what was issued was harvested.

Third phase isn't worth trying even. They are too skittish. On one section up here, they **** down after opening weekend because of all the harassment. That's when we would switch over to bait and use night vision to watch them. Cow lungs cut to softball size are the absolute best btw.

I cant imagine the pressure on them down there. up here there were 56 tags issued and 31 harvested in the county 55.4% avg 8'1" and 32 tags issued with 20 harvested in Lake seminole for 62.5% avg 8'11.5" we do have some pressure from GA on seminole.

Gator hunting aint all it's cut out to be. Cuz use to get 200 tags per year for the ranch from DNR. We would start on 9-1 and be done by 10-1. And we processed and froze all the meat ourselves, paid a old man 1.00 a foot to skin. Cuz has quit gator hunting now because of all the
"yah-who's" drove the price to where it's not worth doing anymore. I know you guys are having lots of fun, but I use to made 5-8k + benefits for 6 weeks of gator hunting. We would use set hooks, and snag hooks but the best way is to shoot them in the ear hole and jump in the water and pull'em out.

years ago It was nearly impossible for a guy to get tags to hunt for personal use because people were buying 200+ tags a year and making a living off of gator hunting. The FWC and DNR saw that it only allowed a handful of people to take gators and enjoy the SPORT. I don't know about GA regs but in Florida the methods you describe are illegal that’s why you only see 60% of tags issued being filled. If I could use bait hooks I would fill my 2 tags the first night. Us YA HOOS that do it for recreation should not restricted from hunting a gator because a select few want to make it a job. I buy my license should be able to hunt what I want.

With all due respect high grit, yahoos spend a lot of money that gets funneled into the local economies to gator hunt. When a commercial outfit kills 2000 gators maybe there's a reason they can't kill that many anymore. Same goes for commercial fishing. Get 3klbs a trip of snapper commercially but shut down the recreational
Sector. Doesn't fly with me. There's got to be some balance to it all

I agree 100% with y'all, just saying. I was not complaining at all. Hook fishing hits close to home for me. My family homesteaded land in FL.
and started commercial fishing in 1920. And buy 1928 was one of the largest fish dealers and producers in the state for 50 years. God put fish on this earth to feed the people, not for the people to catch and release.

Absolutely they are there to eat. But giving out the unlimited trip tickets was a mistake, as was setting the quota so high. Now because of junk biomass studies none of us can fish snapper on the east side. And can't get a bait past the snapper to the grouper when they are open. I haven't been offshore in a year because there's no point to it
