Bush hogging pasture today and tractor cleared a stump in the weeds but bush hog did not. Broke the hitch, then hose and power take off shaft went in every direction. Took them off and took them to the shop to get fixed. 3 hours later back to work. Another 2 hours and a bearing went out in the gear box. Saturday afternoon at 6 no parts anywhere. Ready for a rest anyway. Hogged over 125 acres this week.
Old International 10 ft hog and darn it is heavy. Bet the dealer will not have the parts. Maybe better luck next week.
Also bought a 1997, 3930 New Holland tractor tonight at 10:30. Don't need it but it seemed like a deal. Anybody have something showing what one is worth? Pretty good shape with 1440 hrs.

Friday I was hogging and noticed one side started scalping and I heard an ugly sound. Lifted the bushhog and one set of blades, the stump jumper in shaft layed on the ground. Looked in the gear box and all there was were chunks of metal. 2 gears, shaft, seals, bearings and shims are over $800. Whole new gearbox is only 600, it will be delivered monday.

my books don't show a 3930 as small as they go is a 4030 and they are valued anywhere from $9k to $14k

There is one advertised close to here 2wd with loader for $13,500 does not say what year. Those are good tractors.

Outboard downshaft on my 8' Bush Hog snapped a couple weeks ago.Did not hit anything that hard but it had an old break from some time ago.My welder/heavy mechanic tells me to back off the clutch when storing it so it doesn't freeze up.I told him it had only been tightened up since 1989 :lol:

I finished mine last night. Uneventful year for a change. No bees and no repair bills.

I did run out of Diesel yesterday. Went and bought some after lunch because I knew it was low, then started mowing again after I checked the oil. When it quit a few hours later, it took me a minute to figure out that Diesel in the back of the truck doesn't help the tractor run. :dunce:

Neither does a barrel full sitting back at the back when you tell yourself you need to fill up and drive away without doing it. :help:

Thanks Vanc. Looks like I paid a little less that most of those that are listed. Bought it from my nephew who has quit farming and needed the money.
Why are some of those listed as 45hp, some at 52hp, and some at 55hp? I don't think any of them are 55hp. That would be a 4630 I think.
Dun, I have found the same thing also, the parts are higher than the new gearbox and it is a lot easier to replace the gearbox. Replaced one last year and it took less than 1/2 hour.

Thanks Dun, good link that I had not used before. The 45hp was what I thought. I also have a 3610 (42hp) and a 4630(55hp) and the power seemed somewhere in between. Bushhoged with it 4 hours yesterday and it seemed to do good so I am happy. Now to get the bigger hog fixed.
With the 6ft seems like I am getting nothing done. Years ago I bought a 5ft and thought I was doing great compared to a 4ft. Biggest tractor we had then was a 2000 gas Ford and thought it was all we would ever need. :lol2: How things change. Been thinking about getting something bigger than the 8540 Kubota. Bigger toys I guess. :help:

I've got an 8 and a 6 footer. Seems like the 8 footer is about half again as fast as the 6.

All those Fords still holding up good? I looked at a couple today 4-sale and they are going almost what they sold for new if in good shape. Did you get your bush hogging done?

I probably spend more time reading old threads than current. A lot of good reading from a few years ago. I have looked at several tractors like Kenny has and I bet his had held up good. Just giving him a hard time on the bush hogging.
