I notice as I drive down the road there are countless numbers of old barns just sitting idle. Mostly old stables with hay lofts. Many look like if they had just had the tin on the roof maintained over the years, they would still be in good shape. I know not everybody in this day and age has a use for a stable, but I just can't imagine letting something deteriate. My stable is the hub of activity at my house. I guess that is why I notice them so much.

I notice it to. Since we're in the construction and building business we have always tried to buy vacant land with nothing on it, most if the time people value there building alot higher than what there worth, so I've never had any older barns or building to keep up. But everyday I see barns falling apart and becoming dangerous piles of junk for no reason, with just a little effort most of them would still be very useable and valuable.

Ironic you posted this. I've been taking pictures of the old barn and shack where I spent my early years. Just got back in the truck. I'll post some pics soon

The barn in the first picture was first a single room cabin dwelling. I understand built back in the 20's. It was later (late 40's early 50's) made taller and the sides which are manger type stalls for granny's goats she raised. It had a new roof put on in the late 70's.

The first 4 pics are the barn. I should have taken more pictures from the other sides and of the inside. The other pics were taken inside the old shack

My wife has been making a living for the past 8 years or so photographing old barns.
She also put one in the local paper every week along with a short history of the barn.
Started small - now she has a tough time just keeping up with the phone calls from people either wanting their barn photographed, or put in the paper as the barn of the week

The barn made with the logs looks like the old corn cribs that I remember on our area. Not none left any more.

Bigfoot, I see barns falling over. Many are leaning and it is only a matter of time. It cost too much to repair them. In most cases, it is investing good money with no outlook for a return. You have seen the old barn on my place. On the family farm, the barn and stable are still good. There was a piece in the paper last year about the "passing of the old barns."Bigfoot":2tcep8kh said:

Mercy...I would pay someone to dismantle and rebuild that barn on my place Quachita. I see old barns all the time too but a lot have been torn down and the old weathered wood sold for installation in new homes. Seems folks like "Barn wood" inside these new homes and pay abig price for it.
