I don't think I would pay over double for a 135. There are some differences, but if a 135 will do what you need, a 35 at half price and in good shape will be fine. If it was me I would save the money and take the 35.
 
Oddly enough, I have owned both. The 135 handles rolls a lot better. If all you want to do is clip pasture etc. I would go with the 35.
 
The only way I would consider paying that much more for a 135, would be if it was a diesel, and the 35 was gas, but even then I would have to think on it pretty good.
 
We are missing how many $$$$ in this question.

If if is $500.00 and $1000.00 buy them both !!!

If it is $2000.00 for the 35 and $4000.00 for the 135 then it gets harder, there is nothing wrong with a 35, but I prefer my 135. and most of the time wish it was diesel. Except for the fact that it always starts no matter how cold it gets.
 
That's good that it's a deluxe, that gives you a ground speed pto and a daul clutch along with some other things.

I have moved alot of heavy 4x5 1/2 bales with a 8n, I don't know exactly what the limit would be for a 35, but I don't expect the 135 would be alot different, I could be wrong though.

I expected the prices to be more like 2000$ and 4000$ I wouldn't give 5000$ for a gas 135 anyway. If I were you I would go with the 35.
 
I agree with going with the 35. But if it was me, I would never own another MF. Hardest dam things to work on..everything in such tight quarters.. but JMO.
 
I haven't been on a 35 in 40 years, so I don't know if it is any less able to handle hay than a 135. I have no problem with heavy 4x5 bales with my 135.

My fatherinlaw bales my hay and he used to have a Vicon that baled 5x5 and that was a real struggle for the 135, hard to keep the front tires on the ground.

He switched to a 4x5 New Holland and I don't even have to slow down.
 
I don't think you can move any 5ft wide bale with one, but like I said you should be fine with most 4 wides.

If it was me I would take a good look at tractor house before I bought. I see alot of 60s and early 70s model 4000 fords some gas and some diesel and even a few with loaders in the 2500 to 4750$ range. IMO that would be a big step up, for not alot more money.

Massey is good tractor. Most gasoline are ok, but had a MF 165 with continetal engine. Understand parts are a bear. If diesel, perkins is ok. I think some 35's had a standard engine, uncertain if parts are an issue with the standard. I would guess the 135 if gas is a continetal! Parts might be an issue. Check with some MF dealers and ask about parts. Good luck. Phil
