According to Wikipedia:
As of 2004, the only sport in which no professionals compete is boxing, although even this requires a definition of amateurism based on fight rules rather than on payment, as some boxers receive cash prizes from their National Olympic Committees.

I thought the same as you though with the exception of soccer.

I'm not sure that any game you can play with the head of a dead goat is a "sport"

I really dislike sports, but I found myself watching the tv for most of the olympics. The athletes that competed in the olympics gave me the impression they were glad to be there. Plus they all seemed relatively modest, and deserving of what they won, other than that Pulchinki guy. If professional sports were more like the olympics I might take an interest in them, but as they stand now I could give a hoot less.

It tickled me to see Canada win the hockey game, as well as the figure skating couple from Canada to win their respective medal. And most of all, my heart goes out to the young figure skater from Canada who lost her mother last week. If she didn't touch you, you're not alive.

I watched a lot more of the Olympics than I thought I would since I've never paid a lot of attention to the winter games. There were some outstanding athletes there (alpine skiing especially) and the hockey game was #1 regardless of who won. CANADA was a great host and deserves a huge "Well done". Now it's on to Russia with guided tours of red square and the Kremlin and Lenin's tomb mandatory for everyone.

Well, I'm over it now, so here's what I've got to say. Let's face it folks, if you look at the two countries as a whole, that game meant a lot more to Canadians that it did to us Americans. There are a lot of great hockey players and rabid hockey fans here in the U.S., but nothing like you'll see in Canada. It's their game. While I'll always root for my country's athletes against another's, a part of me is pleased with the way things turned out. The spontaneous outburst of pride, patriotism, and unbridled joy I saw after that game was a wonderful thing to see. Good for you. That's what it's all about.
I'd also like to join TB in congratulating the Canadians for being excellent hosts and putting on a good show. I, too, watched a lot more than I thought I would and I think a big reason for that was the Canadian crowds. It also helps that you guys have a first class national anthem, since we had to listen to it a lot. ;-)
