The white trash discussion has my head spinning.

Good people are good people. We all have choices.

Anyone ever notice when they taste success everyone else wants to talk about how, "He got lucky?"

Hard work pays off. I truly believe this. Calculated risk along with a lot of effort can put you on a success path.

Luck is all they see, all they want to believe. They don't see, or refuse to see the hard work part.

Don't think I've ever seen any of what I would call "white trash" taste success primarily because of the very things you mentioned. No motivation, no drive and no desire to improve their status in life.

This goes back to they are absolutely satisfied and comfortable with their station in life of no effort.
There is no excuse for anyone to not be educated to thier full potential in this country. The stop sign here is the lack of ambitious drive I am convinced you can not give it to a person but you can breed it out

There's a drunk here in town that bought a lotto ticket from a sweet thang behind the register at a convenience store. He's moved out of the trailer park into a gate community. My grandson's ball team had an end of the year party at that gated community pool. There he was at one of the tables. Sitting all by himself and hooting at the little girls - and drinking. I'm sure those kids appreciate all his antics.

He's just one DWI away from assisted living in the big house. He's not that bad of a person if he'd put the bottle down.

Had a drunk weirdo wearing a Hawaiian shirt and bathing suit bothering my daughter and her friend at a Mexican restaurant yesterday. I don't know what the heck he was thinking but It wasn't good.
The best way to get on your feet is to get off your but.

I also believe this. Key is to be persistent and not give up if you have failures and keep your eye on your goals.

but some people are inherently luckier than other people....

take door prizes....
I have never in my life won anything more than a cap....
I have a coworker who a month or two ago won a new Sthil chainsaw..and she was so happy becasue her husbands chain saw had just bit the dust.......and she wins drawings all the time at least one decent prize per year...I know because I have been working with her for 15 years and am usually sitting near her when she wins. usually holding the adjoing ticket number.

went to a BQA certification meeting last week....I won another farm credit ball cap....
my neighbor sitting right next to me won a cattle rub and 2.5 gallons of insecticide....he is another that wins good stuff all the time in drawings...
sombody won a tool set and a tool box.

like the old hee haw song....
"if it won't for bad luck, I'd have no luck atall."

So I never count on luck...and I have learned to be wary of the bad that can happen....sort of a how can this go wrong and how can I prevent it approach. As John Wayne is reputed to have said.....Life is hard...it's even harder if you are stupid....

Read Jogee's post again! Persistence! If you attend 10,000 events that have a hundred or less people there, odds are you'll eventually win 5 of those caps!

You can't pay attention to these type of things. I just keep on putting my finger in that light socket. Eventually it might trip the breaker! Surely there is an easier way to cut the power.

To words make the difference between luck and bad luck.
Can and can't
I can't do that. It's to hard I can't. It's to hot I can't. It's to heavy I can't. It's to complicated, I can't.

Just change the can't to can . And keep hitting whatever it is until you do it...

I disagree....

there is a distinction between luck and perseverance....
anyone can achieve through perseverance and application of effort to achieve a set goal....
not everyone can correctly predict the numbers of powerball....that involves luck...
saying i can and buying tickets until my family is destitute is only going to marginally increase my chance of correctly willing powerball....some people win multiple lotto jackpots...that cannot be replicated thru sheer effort and determination. they are lucky...

If your going to compare Powerball, to life sucess.....I'll just let you have it..
Good luck

Yeah, but how many times have we all heard or said "I'd rather be lucky than good any day"?
The fact that I'm even still alive is testament to either being extremely blessed or extremely lucky......I know it's not just a case of me being 'that good'.

Would it have been lucky if you had let the things you've been through break you. Put your head under the covers and hide from the rest of your life. Turned to drugs.
I reckon you put it behind you and hammered away at life. Luck might have given you the chance. But grit and perseverance is what mattered.

YOU....are the one who is equating perseverance and hard work with luck.....

I am saying they are two different things.
