That would be great for alfalfa(eliminate shattering loss) but I doubt even Alfalfa could pay for it.
Haylage eliminates the same issues- I'm sure alot cheaper.

Interesting.......
I have a prune drying plant across the street from me. Looks like the same process. I have to say, it is a noisy booger for one month a year.
When I first moved here, I was out on the tractor in the field. I got this wonderful smell and was craving berry pie. I was wondering who was making pies that I could smell clear out in the pasture! :P It turned out to be the prune dryers across the street was in full swing! :lol: It does smell good!

I can't get my head around that setup. So you cut it in the field, rake up the fresh clippings and somehow load it on a truck and haul it to the plant where it is then dried and then baled. Seems like the added cost of hauling green grass to the plant would make it inefficient not to mention the cost of the power to run the dryers. Of course it would only cost $1,000,000 for the nicer setup so you'd surely have your money back after a million or so bales. :shock:

Makes no sense to me either... for the money that plant would cost you, it only makes sense to continue to do it the way we have always done it. If traditional methods don't work out... i.e. bad weather, rain, whatever. A man could buy a LOT of high quality hay for many years for what that thing is going to cost and operate!

jo, All I need is 5 million in funding. I will take an old long picker remove the guts and install a conveyor belt that will feed the hay into a 53ft trailer where I have an oven installed and a bailer mounted on the rear to roll it. I will adapt the suspension make it all wheel drive and have a seat up where the basket used to be. just 5million and you will see a profit when we take it to production in 2150. I will pm you my address. I have access to the picker and trailer now.

good idea, We will need to find us a minority/female/ homosexual/democrat/peta/ vegan person to be the face of the company so the feds will leave us alone.

and we can make a commercial like the world vision one only with people on the streets of Colorado holding a starving puppy and people will send us money to help these people cope with the life they got but didn't deserve.

I would assume it is cut and blown into a wagon (without fine chopping) thus it is one pass system on the field. Two wagons and one could be unloading while another is being filled. Or blow into a semi and haul at highway speeds. Irrigated hay, high protein, could see the benefits. Won't pencil out for me as mowing with my JD #4 behind my horses wouldn't fit the bill!
