I had this post on the other board. Thought mybe I would get more input over here.

What facters would make you save one bull over another based on its mother?

Would you ever pick a terminal sire based in part on its mother?

The cow is responsible for 50% of the genetic makeup of its calf, therefore it would be foolish not to take into account the dam when selecting bulls for breeding, whether or not you are using him to breed heifer replacements or as a terminal sire.
Simply put, the maternal and beefing qualities of a bulls dam are just as important as his sire, whatever you intend to use him for. IMHO.
