Neighbor called, "hey you have a dead steer". Sure enough. Just enough of a rise to become cast, just starting to become stiff. Been on feed for a month and the best growing. Better than 4 months, I guess.

That really stinks. I’m sorry for your loss. Amazing how tough cattle can be, and then sometimes something as small as that can kill them.

Had a pregnant cow do that last year... I mean really, you had to lay down facing uphill with next to no rise but just enough????

I’ve never had a yearling do that. I’ve lost plenty of bred cows and some dry cows but never a yearling or a bull. Always wondered why.

Sorry for your bad luck. I had that happen to a bred cow and a steer a couple of years ago. Swore off round bale rings as it happened on an old hay pile.
Now just this last week it happened again on an uneven spot on the ground. I got lucky as I was checking for calves and found her during calving, cast with the calf's nose and toes sticking out. Quickly pulled the calf and then righted the cow. Could have been a 4k disaster if I would have been much later.
