Pouring rain in north western Minnesota. Forecasting 3 to 10 foot snow drifts around Devils Lake, ND. Sounds like Canadian ducks are heading for Kansas. Are you seeing any?

Brandon, MB got 29". Lots of people in Winnipeg that are headed towards 48 hours without power. Got about 3" of rain and 2" snow here since you left on Wednesday.

Heard a new one this week. A reporter requested that people not snowmobile thru unharvested soybeans, any more.

No Canadian ducks but the pelicans are back, though not as many as last year. Currently 71 degrees and beautiful so you can just keep your cold & snow.

Reported in Mpls Tribune, the National Weather Service in Duluth office were concerned they had

Just got back from a ND road trip. They are combining beans as fast as they can. Saw one guy combining corn. Saw one guy who had buried a big unicut silage chopper. They were hooking it up to a tracked tractor.
Beans are really really short in some areas. Maybe 8 to 10", so the snow was deeper than the beans. Gadwalls are down, and hiding out in flooded bean fields.
You have to drive a long ways to see a cow. Pretty sad. A full third of that land should be in reed canary.

Young Mennonite from Rainy sold his cows last night at auction. Never preg-checked anything or advertised, and just ran them through with the kill cows. Couple guys took a chance they were bred and bought 10 or so between them. All went slaughter price or just a bid above, $1000-1200 CDN (760-914 US). Well fed cows. I have seen enough years of his calves to know the cows do well looking after themselves, calves not so much. He had 24 cows left of 35 he bought 3 years ago from neighbor. Lost a good $500-600 per head from what he originally paid for them. Not the brightest tool in the shed.
What amazed me, was he only had 52 cows left. Asked neighbor what happened to his 120+ cow herd. Shipped opens every year, and there were a lot of them every year apparently. You would never guess that from how cocky he was. I know multiple times I was doing everything wrong according to him. This is the same one that bought the half million dollar tracked Lexion with 40' header and is going grain full-time. This last month and half with 21.5" of rain hasn't changed his mind that way I guess.

Poor grazers here with black cows have an annual 15 to 30% cull rate at preg check. So herd size can go down quickly.
Retrofit combine tracks cost U$S 65,000 in ND, and are getting hard to find.
A sad thing is most of the flooded land I saw in ND is in the Prairie pothole region but they trying to row crop it all. If that does not work well - - then they buy better crop insurance, a tile plow, and a set of tracks... So we can export more P & K.

Sounds like the boys got into the ducks last monday on the cold front. Geese have been moving quite a bit. Hoping this weekend we can go smack a few.
