One of our herds is composed of 32 mature 5-8 yr old cows and 1 bull. The bull I used last spring was a 3 1/2 yr old angus. I've had the bull since he was a yearling and had always had him paired with another older bull in our larger herd, and have never had any calving problems. I turned him out with this smaller herd last May, and to date I only have 12 calfs. I pregnancy checked 12 of the cows that haven't calved this weekend and 2 were open and the rest were bred but still had around 60-90 days.. this sucks!!
I'm going to take the bull to be semen checked this week. I hope that that is the problem and not a herd health issue like lepto..
