Nightmare

After visiting family this weekend came home to a regular Oh Crap situation.

Winds are blowing around 25-30+mph, smoke is billowing up just north of us, no husband and my pager is going off like crazy. Do a quick check on my answering machine, Sherrif's office left messasage that my husband is on the fire and will be there all night and he wants me to check the heifers. OK.
Find a premie calf, good cow had him cleaned off and alive.
Found out there were 5 fires today. Everybody was running like crazy.
Neighbor called and said that husband had been fed and will be at the neighbors all night. Fire is burning in the tops of the cottonwoods. Hope the wind does not come back up.

Going to be one very long night.

Almost 2000 acres have burned.

Came out that over 6000 acres burned. One fire burned clear up to yesterday afternoon. The crews could not reach it. Several buildings were lost and a fuel tank with gas in it blew.

man that was a bad fire.i feel for the firefighters thats staying there an fighting the fire.an you found the cow an calf.so thats a good thing.

Hope you get some rain soon to put the fires out. We had a time last spring with our little arsonist. He torched a lot of woods here. They really slapped the book at him too - he is now serving 18 months for destroying over $1 million worth of timber. :shock: :roll:

Over 4000 acres burned.
Husband got home at 6am and went right to bed. There is still a fire burning up north that they can't get out because of the area it is burning in is not accessable.
Neighbor was able to save his house, barn and trailer house. Lost his lawn tractors (brand new), sheds and wooden grain bins. Don't know if he lost any of his farm equipment.
Could see the flames from my place. Got a pic at 11pm last night, don't know if they will turn out.

On a good bit of news that preemie calf got up and sucked. Going to keep him in for a few days. He's nothing, but hair and bone no fat on him at all. He is missing hair on his face, but he is going strong.
