Night lights

When we moved out here in 1979, there were some houses fairly close, but the lay of the land kind of shielded most of them from sight.
In the distance there wasn’t many in sone directions, now they are all around.
The last one of the real bright ones is the electric co op, I reckon us customers can afford their big light bill. One good thing about it being that close is that our electric is usually back on within 2-3 hours of an outage.

Our lights are almost always on, since we're on the same trunk line feeds that Ft Hood is. If Hood has power, we do. Didn't even lose power in the big freeze of 2021 when so much of the rest of Texas did.

My old place in East Texas? In 2020, we had over 22 outages lasting more than 5 hours each, several lasting over 12 or even 24 hours. It was close to that bad every one of the 20 years I lived there. Other people's trees and their limbs..

I can remember coon hunting on a pretty big mountain as a teenager. We judged where we were by a single night light in the valley to the north. We could see town lights several miles to the north. Not much else at 3am. No traffic most of the night except for maybe another coon hunter.
Our population is 1/2 or a little more of what it was in 1960 but lights everywhere.

Growing up in the fifties we had a ''pole light'' as did all the neighbors. If you were doing chores you turned on the pole light.Only turned on as needed. Later the power co. offered a dusk to dawn light and the world changed for the worse.

The bulb went out in our mercury vapor light. A electrician friend from church happened to be out (he is a city sweller). He said call the power company they will install and maintain a LED fixture. They will just put a little charge on your monthly bill. I said I am happy with the moon, stars, and a flashlight.
