Niger is the the largest nation in western Africia with 16 million people and covered by 80% Sahara desert, does anyone know why ( Obama deploys drones, military personnel to Niger) as per headlines. :!: I don't watch the news much anymore because it is so one sided and depressing and can't do anything but get mad.

I looked it up to make sure and Niger is a nation in Africa named after the Niger River. I haven't figured out what's going on in the East yet and now we are going to Africia.

Without meaning to offend, your comments are known all around the world as quite typical of Americans. I have to admit the average Canadian is becoming the same. Very parochial. Until it directly affects them.

You better start paying attention, becaise this is one of the new hot spots - and Canadians and probably Americans are already there - not Niger - but in Mali - next door - where the fighting is taking place. There is another desert war in the making here.

Niger is simply the safe spot to operate out of - and since this is Africa (one of the world cesspools) the word safe is a relative term. A bunch of Canadian and American civilians were recently killed in Algeria - bordering Mali and Niger - by Islamics led this time by a Canadian passport carrying terrorist - yeah, we have them too despite the typical entitled Canadian attitudes up here.

If you really want to find out what is happening in the world you need to focus your efforts on the following two news channels.

BBC and Al Jezerra

Remember, that Al Jezeera is an Islamic based news organization and there is an inherent bias despite their attempts to look western. They do have a unique perspective and do get you into places the western news organizations do not.

BBC is probably still one of the best international news organizations out there.

You start to follow them and you will realize how much bull schitte pap your local news stations are feeding you. American news stations and news groups as a whole are so politicized as to be almost useless for news outside of Ann Landers, Dear Abby or Honey Boo Boo in my personal opinion. Canadian news is now becoming very close to American news and so biased it is shameful.

Now-a-days you actually need to think and compare before making your decisions as media as a whole can no longer be trusted to tell the truth.

Bez, I listen to the BBC in the morning (early morning, like 2 am, because my local PBS station switches over to BBC in those hours. I roll over and hit the snooze and it gives me 30 minutes of radio. BBC does strong reporting in Africa. They seem to have sources that USA news doesn't have--or pursue having.
Not sure I can take much Al_Jazeera. Mostly it would be good to know what the other guy is thinking. USA has a lot to worry about already. I just don't want to put men in there (Africa) and invite trouble.

All of which can be purchased from America's northern neighbour - you know, those people who speak the same language, eat the same food, watch mostly the same television programs, drive the same vehicles, obey similar laws and so on.

The US of A does more than a billion dollars a day in trade with Canada - their largest trading partner - yet most televised business reports on US of A television never mention that - instead worrying about Japan and the arab states and islamic countries - for some reason Canadian oil and gas and energy products are not to be used - other than electricity which the US of A buys enormous amounts of.

So now it looks like China wants to buy in.

Those neighbours to the north produce oil and high quality uranium and no one has to use a rifle to get it.

But for some reason the US of A continues to support those champions of human rights, the arabs and islamic countries instead.

Never could figure that one out.

And diamonds.

I will throw in an edit for diamonds. The last statistics I could find showed Canada is now out producing South Africa - ranking number three in the world - so if you want diamonds - Canada has them as well. And no one uses a rifle to produce them either - other than to maybe shoot a few bears and wolves.

Amazing how little is known about that huge country to the north of the US of A - second largest land mass in the world and only 35 million people - give or take a few million.

I think Canada should start a direct mail advertising campaign here is the US.
It would remind the low info voters that there is actually a large, friendly (well..usually :D ) prosperous, English (mostly) speaking nation to our North, and it might go a long way toward keeping our postal service solvent for a little while.
Yes, Canada has a tremendous amount of resources to offer the US. Some of you guys could even be mistaken for Minnesoootans or Yoopers because of your accent. I don't know why the "powers that be" keep ignoring and dissing you at every opportunity. :???:
