...US govt shutdown. Two sets of high stakes players are negotiating at the same time. Of course I mean the US Congress and the NFL owners and players.
Which will have more impact on your life? An NFL shutdown or a US Govt shutdown? Personally, I look forward to the exhibiton games in August. (not)
The sport is successful beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Get it done boys. Don't be piggy. And US Govt, same to you.

best thing that could happen to this country is if the entire guvment shut down and nobody bothered to reopen it.

It is corrupt beyond our wildest imagination......
bloated and infested with tenured bureacrats with unreasonable power.....
not to mention the countless czars we have today....
there really need to be some hangings up there....
We need to outlaw a lot of the crap that is going on and get back to the original constitution.
department of energy cost billions and has never produced one watt of energy.
department of education cost billions and is primarily responsible for the failure of the public school systems today.
EPA wants to outlaw american life in any way it can....regardless of the cost of the repressive regulations.
sending foreign aid to nearly every country in the world but won't let FEMA send aid to disaster zones in Virginia and Texas becasue they have strong republican govenors who oppose obama policies.

as for the nfl.....
I can be very happy just watching college ball where they still play for the love of the game....

The Minnesota government has been shut down since the first of the month and the only time I even think about it is when I watch the news or read the paper. I don't hear anybody talking about it. I think the only people really affected by it is the people that don't work and rely on the government for everything.

The biggest problems I've heard about are people not being able to get fishing licenses so resorts are not getting out of state visitors, of course Conservation Officers were considered essential employees so they are still able to hand out fines if you don't have a license.

For some reason the horse tracks shut down, not sure why and since I never go I don't care enough to find out.

And some license with Miller Brewing didn't go through the system in time and bars are running out of beer.

Sure there are people employed by the state that are out of work (but collecting unemployment) and some businesses are being hurt, and there will be road construction that may not get finished before winter, but I really think it is just proving how much overspending there is. Oh and from what I gather the difference is the GOP wants to increase spending 7-10% in the new budget but won't agree to raise taxes, and the Dems want to increase taxes and increase the budget 20-26%. Not sure if that is accurate but that is what I heard this morning on the radio.

Absolutely !!!! And NBA could fold and disappear and most of the folks in the country would never knwo it. HC.....you know it's pretty darn hard to worry about anything when you're fishing. ;-)

Probably...anybody 7 foot tall can dunk...suckers can't hit a free throw if you used a wash tub for the basket.

When Shaq was in his prime and playing for championships he got everything he needed from the refs. He was allowed to back defenders up to the basket and when 350 lbs starts backing up it usually can get within' arms reach of the basket (and a dunk). He had to be quick about it, and not give the defenders a chance to foul him. Foul him and he will only get half his attempts and he has to run back down the floor.

Van, us common bodies can't comprehend---because on TV they all look proportional to each other. Shaq stood out, even on an NBA court. That is one BIG man.

I listen to sports talk radio quite a bit. Right after Shaq retired they were talking to some NBA analyst. Can't remember his name. Anyway, he'd played against Shaq, seen him in person many times and interviewed him a couple of times. Even with all that, he said the first thing that popped into his mind every time he saw him was "My God that is one big SOB!!"

You over the years most sports have changed rules to make their game more competive... Basketball has not, personally I think the rim should be moved to 12' 6". Im sure their would still be some players that dunked, but you know I think some of them would have to learn how to shoot a shot.
