Anybody ever heard of newborn Angus calves melting in this heat?

I've had 3 so far, one last night. All appear to be fine, but I do worry about how much they can take.

We've got a few newborns also. They haven't melted but I sure feel sorry for them sometimes. Seems like they've all got a real heavy coat of hair (particularly the one angus x char) and they lay out in minimal shade. It makes me feel hotter just looking at them.

Baby calves can really suffer in the heat...especially oppressive heat. And, should they scour, they can die from dehydration super fast.

When I was raising baby calves I kept them shaded. I had pens and hutches set up under every available tree. I also misted them down with water and gave them electrolytes if they even looked at me funny.

I don't know if you have any way of misting them or giving them electrolytes periodically, but if you do, it would be worth the effort.

Now is when you really have to keep an eye out for respritory problems in those newborns.
