New Stock for 16ga

Bought this piece of wood over a year ago but have not had time to finish it. Finally got it inletted and decided I had to see what was hiding in that chunk of walnut.
It looks like I hit a winner here. I have 2 more coats of finish to apply and then it's off to the chequerer to fancy it up a bit........and no Kenny it's not for sale.

BTW it goes on my Savage Fox BSE. One of the few single trigger SxS's out there and I really like it.

No I bought it from a man out of Tennessee or Kentucky. I have since last all of his contact info. All I know is he had a good stock duplicating machine and he sold me some good wood. I did finish inletting it but that wasn't much of a job. FWIW this is approx. 15 coats of finish. I am at the point where I am no longer sanding in the finish but rubbing it on and then sanding it with a very fine paper.

Funny thing is we talked and I told him it doesn't have to be real special to go on that shotgun as it was not a high end shotgun. I can only imagine whe his good stuff looks like.

Still don't know where to send it to be chequered but I feel like that wood deserves to be checkered.

Wife bought me a Spartan 16 gauge a few years ago single trigger.
She seen a new 16 that wasn't high end and thought it would be good to carry on the Mule.
Low end shotgun and I grab it quite often shoots sweet has become one of my favorites.

I have never seen another 16 never saw 28.
See quite a few 20's and 12's around they were made for Remington by Baikal.

That is a good looking piece of wood. I bet you wont be beating the bushes with that gun. That is an awesome stock.

I put what I believe will be the last coat of finish on it tonight. That makes 17. If it fills the last bits of open grain like I think it will I will let it cure for at least 4 days or more and then rub it down to an eggshell finish with rottenstone and call it good. I am going to put a leather covered pad on it and then send it off for the chequering..

BTW I still have the original stock which is in good shape but short. I have a grandson coming in Oct. Something tells me that this will belong to him someday.

I will have the rest of MY life to influence him. His father is a plastic gun guy. My other osns are not.
