There are a couple outfits around here doing that. One crop farmer was telling me how they came in with several drones. While one was spraying another was getting fresh batteries and filled with spray. He said they carried about 10 gallons of spray. They used them to spread grass seed on some of the burn areas after last years fire. People thought they did a better job than spreading by helicopter.

It is gps guided and follows very straight lines just like a wheeled field sprayer with gps auto steer.

Yes, it can do grass seed and fertilizer. All drones need a separate attachment for that and I don’t have it yet.

Well I just got it yesterday. But the thing is I need a reliable sprayer as I try to use as much no-till as I can to rejuvenate old hay fields. I have an old Spra-Coup that is not reliable and getting expensive and time consuming to keep functional. Buying another old clunker seemed like an invitation to commit myself to more mechanic work and unexpected expenses. So I do a few hundred acres in the fall and again in the spring, and I thought the price point was reasonable (ish) for a new, reliable sprayer.

I’m spraying glyphosate at 2.5 gallons an acre so just over 5 acres.

I was quoted $12 an acre application rate this year. The ground rigs are charging $6.50 application rate. Kind of hard to go with the drone at those rates. Both rates are without chemical cost.

I paid $13,000 for a new spray rig a couple years ago, have about $5,000 in a cheap gps with auto steer, and have to pull it with a tractor that burns 4 gallons an hour. The drones aren't too bad considering the cost of other options.

Wow, guys here are about $11 CAD for drones. If you can get someone. It’s actually illegal here still so no one really advertises lol

It is illegal to spray with drones? What about spreading fertilizer, is that illegal too?
