New shop toy

I needed a compressor for my home shop figured I'd try this out. I love built in the USA with global products sticker. Anybody have one? I was going to get a smaller unit but this was on sale just as much as small ones.i also found out it doesn't come with a cord wth

You're soooo out of my league, Sky! My new shop toy is a Dewalt 90 mph lithium cordless blower - and I was positively giddy. But nice compressor! :clap:

A couple of years ago I bought one of the small portable Porter Cable compressors, rebuilt unit, and I like it a lot. Probably not some's cup of tea though, sold on Amazon. $60. You can take a tire off any vehicle with it on one tank of air but have to recharge to put it back on.

One of the handiest tools in the shop. The bigger the better and always good to support USA. Some of those motors you can either pigtale 110 or 220 cords as either works good (mine is like that), but the 220 will burn less juice. It looks like you got a good one. Drain the moisture out every so often and it will last many years unlike the oiless one.

The motor burnt up on my Husky so i bought a new one like yours. Then I found a motor at TSC on clearance and now I have two. Keep an eye on the oil level they do burn a little oil.

They are not portable and designed to be wired to a breaker panel.

It's not portable. They figure your going to hard wire it in and bolt it to the floor.

I have one for finish carpentry to run a stapler or brad nailer I can't remember the name brand of it but I love the thing.

Ordered a line dryer and lubrication thing for it.

Thanks for the tip I noticed they come from the factory with more oil then recommended by the factory I wondered if they were setting people up for failure from the get go.

I figured after I noticed how the farm shop compressor was i never paid attention. I plan on putting a locking cord outlet and wiring it with a power cable and locking plug. I will probably keep it on the pallet Incase I have a need to move it in the shop.

It's not portable. They figure your going to hard wire it in and bolt it to the floor.

I just want to be able to move it around the shop easily if need arises.

I like that design Sky, upright like that, minimises the floor space it occupies plus the regulator and connectors are around eye level, sure beats getting down on your hands and knees to see what you have it set on.

Fwiw , find a place to put it and forgot about moving one around . You will not regret putting it in a closet or outside of the shop. Buy a hose reel and a couple extra hoses if you need more reach.

I will find a home for it. I thought about putting outside but figured it would shorten the life just being out in the elements indirectly.

I just upgraded, too. I put a water trap and auto oiler on, as well. I recommend keeping two sets of hoses, one for oil, and one clean. Even with the oiler turned off, the residual oil in the hose will contaminate a welding surface if I blow it off. Pretty big PITA with aluminum......Learned the hard way. :bang:

Thanks for the advice... Your IR looks like our snap on compressor we have they probably built it and snap on relabeled.

I have a similar unit 60 gallon vertical, says 6.5 hp but really 2 hp (VxAxPF at max load), cap start, cap run, different brand, 2 cylinder vertical compressor, purchased back in the early '90's from HD. I use 10w-40 full syn. oil in the sump. Drain and refill every so often. Problems over those years was early on motor failure/replacement and (long enough ago to forget when) blew a head gasket on the compressor, easily obtained and replaced. Just this past year replaced the flat belt that really likes it's tension and perfect alignment of the sheaves.

I plumbed in an easily accessible drain cock on it and use it often. A little compressor oil shows up in the water drained out. I like that as I assume the compressor oil in the tank will aid in preventing the water from rusting out the tank. Also that keeps me checking the level of the oil in the comp. sump.

I have a 60gal IR at home and a 80gal IR at hay barn . I also have 200' of extra hose so I can reach pretty much anything around the barns.

As far as I'm concerned the best way to set it up is to run are lines all over the shop so that you can tap into it with your hose where ever you want
