At 3am I thought you were running a trot line.
Surprised you said rod and reel. You fish this way this late often?
How are the mosquitoes over your way?

We put the trotlines away when the freezer gets full. 100 degrees out with 50 + humidity. We don't start until after dark and quit at sunrise. Kinda like big game hunting. Sit all night for maybe a bite. If you ever sit on a river all night .Around midnight the bugs disappear.

how long was the fight?

About 30 minutes ez. I actually had a smaller fish probably about 10 pounds at boatside when the a rod in a holder went off. I grabbed the rod to keep it from getting jerked outta the holder and instantly the new fish needed the attention. I put the rod with the smaller fish in a holder and fought the bigger fish. The river has good current were I was and the fish fought very strong.

I have never seen a catfish that big here much less caught one. I can't even imagine hooking one that big.
A friend caught one in eastern VA that weighed 128lb. He turned it loose also.

the fish this far north dont get anywhere close to that big the biggest fish in the state have got to be at michigan's adventures (a amusement park) they have a pond with largemouth bass and they got like gum ball dispensers full of food and people pay to throw handfuls of food to see them
