In the north Georgia area, which months can orchard grass be successfully planted for new pasture?

Which months for fescue?

you got me.

is that some kind of bermuda or bahia grass?
just kidding.

Generally if the soil temp is in the 50's and the threat of freezing is past, you can plant either of them by drilling or no-tilling. I've never had any luck broadcast and rolling with OG or fescue. Timothy and clover seem to work ok that way, as does WW.

Would OG or fescue planted in early spring be well enough established to withstand summer heat/drought?

Heat, no problem. Drought could be real questionable.

That's a very good point. Even established OG doesn;t recover well from drought and the non-toxic fescues don;t recover well either in comparison to the endophyte infected stuff. The lack of persistence of the non-endophyte stuff is per a neighbor that jumped on that bandwagon a couple of years ago. We got some rain and have grass to spare, he's still feeding hay.
