Looking at buying a used 740, baler has net, and the extrasweep pickup. It seems to be in good shape and has around 10,000 bales on it. Whats yalls opinions on the 740 baler? Ill be stepping up from a hesston 5530 so im thinking it ll be a major improvement.

I don't have a BR 740 but I did recently buy a BR 780, and I have been satisfied. My dad has been running a New Holland 688 for about 13 years now with very few problems so our experience has been solid with the brand. I will say when I bought mine I could have been a little wiser on what to look for. I wish I had known what to look at a little more. It made through the first season, but I took it in that winter and ended up with about $3000 stuck in it. Had to re-lace the belts and replace a couple of bearings. It works great now but would have given me a fuel for bargaining if I had caught some of the things that needed fixing before buying. Next time I think I will buy one that has already been run through the shop and looked at top to bottom, then I am sure of what I got. For what it is worth mine had 1800 bales on it when I bought it, of course that is a larger bale I wouldn't think that 10,000 bales would be all that much hay consider the size of the bale, should be a lot of life left in it. This talk of hay has got me itching for summer

Thanks for your info, the baler had a few things that needed fixing which the dealer is doing and they re relacing the belts too. I hope it does what i need it to do, its not exactly what i want but it fits my budget and i think itll meet my need. Im anxious to get in the hay field myself.
